Born in Sheffield in 1984, Redfern grew up in market towns, seaside resorts, and post-industrial cities before moving to Wales and gaining a PhD in Literature from Swansea University in 2010. Redfern is nonbinary queer, and has campaigned for LGBTQ+ and polyamory rights since they were a teenager. They currently live in Berlin.

Born in the North of England in August 1984, Redfern grew up in market towns, seaside resorts, and post-industrial cities, before moving to Wales and gaining a PhD in Literature from Swansea University. They are author to the novels Forget Yourself and The Giddy Death of the Gays & the Strange Demise of Straights – which was a finalist for the Bisexual Book Awards and nominated for a Lambda Literary Award. They were elected Gay & Bisexual Officer at Swansea University, have served on the review committee for the Conference on the Future of Monogamy and Nonmonogamy at UC Berkeley, and publicly debated the issue at UCL. Their campaign work for LGBTQ+ and polyamory rights has been referenced in various media outlets. In 2010 Redfern moved to Berlin, where they live with two boyfriends and far too many books.

Bio:

Born in the north of England in the summer of 1984, REDFERN JON BARRETT is a writer and polyamory rights campaigner. Armed with a doctorate in literature from Swansea University/Prifysgol Abertawe, they are author to novels The Giddy Death of the Gays & the Strange Demise of Straights (finalist for the 2016 Bisexual Book Awards) and Forget Yourself, as well as having contributed to publications including Guernica Daily, PinkNews, Van Winkle’s, and Strange Horizons on topics ranging from 18th century nonmonogamy to 23rd century science fiction. Redfern has worked with both Guernica and PEN America as a reader, and currently divides their time between Britain and Berlin, where they live with their two partners.
